Snarkitecture and Made by Choice reach new heights with ‘Lieksa’, a mountain-shaped furniture collection in bent birch plywood
Snarkitecture, a Brooklyn-based studio known for reimagining the familiar, has launched their latest furniture collection, ‘Lieksa,’ during New York Design Week 2024. Inspired by Finland’s bent plywood tradition pioneered by Alvar Aalto, the collection features a series of chairs and tables with undulating edges, created in collaboration with Finnish design brand Made by Choice.
The collection, produced at Made by Choice’s Halikko factory, includes a dining chair, lounge chair, small round table, and a dining or conference table, all made of bent birch plywood. These pieces combine simplicity and functionality, featuring soft, warm elements and a playful design. The tables also include a concealed compartment for small items, adding to their practicality.
“This collection is designed for creative collaboration and connection,” says Snarkitecture’s Alex Mustonen. “The natural warmth of the wood and the distinctive form will bring comfort and curiosity to any room.”
“When different cultures and design languages meet, the results are often unique and unexpected,” adds Niclas Ahlström of Made by Choice.
